Africa’s Burkina Faso, in the Sahel region, has faced ongoing challenges for Christians, including violence and family rejection. Aicha, now twelve, became a follower of Jesus at age seven after meeting Pastor Steven, stating she understood Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. This decision came amid threats and hostility from relatives in a Muslim-majority context.
She confronted physical abuse from paternal and maternal uncles and was forced to return home when her faith was discovered. Despite the hostility, Aicha remained steadfast, continued attending church, and began sharing her faith with her parents, who later observed a positive change in her demeanor and behavior toward them and her siblings, Azis and Somaia, who also started attending church.
Local Portes Ouvertes partners provided practical support to the family, covering medical expenses, food, and essential items. The family expressed gratitude for the aid and for the strength drawn from their faith. Aicha’s story highlights perseverance through hardship and reinforces the Christian message of hope in Christ for their community.
