A new reflection every two days — always drawn from the same letter.
At Good Hope Station in West Africa, missionary Nathaniel Nurse encountered a woman who placed her trust in a cloth spread outside her hut to ward off sickness and death. Using a powerful analogy, Nurse asked if she would value something precious by walking on it. This encounter reveals the fragility of human hopes when placed in objects. It echoes Isaiah 44:18-20, which condemns the folly of trusting in man-made idols. The woman's later act of bringing the cloth to church symbolizes a complete surrender to Christ, the only one who can truly overcome death.
Have you ever stopped to think about what you rely on for security? It might not be a cloth, but it could be money, status, relationships, or even your own abilities. The question is: can these things truly protect you from what you fear? This week's challenge is to identify an area where you place excessive trust in something temporary and consciously surrender it to God in prayer. Like the woman in the letter, take that 'cloth' to Jesus and lay it at His feet.
