ContextFrederick, a 22-year-old Christian, led the Christian student group at Garissa University in northeastern Kenya, a region dominated by Muslims and influenced by Al-Shabaab. Despite warnings of impending attacks, he and his peers held regular prayer and fasting meetings, believing God had sent them there with a purpose.
The TrialOn the morning of April 2, 2014, Frederick was awakened by gunfire. Al-Shabaab militants stormed the campus, separating Muslims from non-Muslims. When asked about his faith, he knew denying Christ meant death. The attack left 147 dead, making it one of the worst religious violence episodes in Kenya.
Faith and OutcomeFrederick survived the massacre, but the experience strengthened his faith. He transferred to Moi University but remains committed to the gospel. Today, he sees the event as a divine test and maintains the conviction that God protected him to continue his mission, even amid persecution.
