In Ituri, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Christians were compelled to leave their homes due to ongoing violence linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). Recent attacks prompted the displacement of families, disruption of farming activities, and vulnerability among church leaders in several areas of the Mambasa region.
According to local partners of Open Doors, on October 6, 2026 there was the burning of a vehicle and the kidnapping of a resident in Mambasa, though the victim later escaped. The incident adds to a series of attacks reported in recent months, contributing to insecurity and the temporary closure of churches in multiple communities.
Christian leaders report that many pastors have left their communities for safety reasons, with several congregations suspending activities. Despite the challenges, some church figures express continued faith and call for prayers for the safety of local farmers and for resilience amid the ongoing threat.
