In a context of violence against Christians in Nigeria, Pastor Josiah and his daughter were abducted amid attacks on villages. During captivity, the captors mocked the faith of the hostages and pressured them to join their cause, offering allegiance to Allah.
After their release, the family learned that Josiah’s two sons, Jonathan and Timothy, had been killed by the abductors when sent to obtain the ransom. Returning to the village, the family found that the pastor’s younger brother had also died, deepening the period of mourning.
To support emotional and spiritual recovery, Josiah and his daughter sought care at the Shalom Center for post-trauma care. The pastor described the early days as dominated by anger and a desire for vengeance, but said that the post-trauma program helped restore emotional balance and faith.
