ContextSubhey and David are two Christian brothers from Aleppo, Syria. Before the civil war, they enjoyed religious freedom, but from 2011 onward the situation worsened. In 2012, they were forced to flee to Lebanon with their family, leaving behind jobs and studies, as being Christian became a target for extremists.
The TrialOn the journey back to Syria, they were intercepted by the Islamic State in Tripoli. The militants stopped the car, demanded documents, and would recognize them as Christians by their names. Fear overwhelmed the brothers, who knew the options were death, flight, or paying taxes for their faith.
Faith and OutcomeIn the moment of crisis, Subhey and David cried out to Jesus, feeling an inexplicable peace. One of the militants, upon seeing their documents, said something unexpected and let them pass. Today, they live in Lebanon, facing hardships as unwanted refugees, but they maintain their faith that God protected them.
