ContextGrace, a North Korean Christian, grew up in a country where faith in God is considered a political crime. From childhood, she witnessed her grandmother praying secretly in the yard, as any display of belief in Jesus could lead to arrest and torture. Her family faced the devastating famine of the 1990s, and religious persecution was constant.
The TrialAfter attempting to flee to China, Grace was captured and sent to a labor camp. There, she was tortured to betray other Christians, but refused to speak, even under the threat of having her fingers cut off. Her mother was tortured and killed in front of her, and Grace, forbidden to cry, had to swallow the pain in silence.
Faith and OutcomeEven in the darkness, Grace never abandoned her faith. Praying to God, she found strength to endure the suffering and miraculously escaped the camp. She reunited with her father, who took her to China, where the family could be together again. Today, Grace lives freely and attends church, grateful for divine protection.
