Pr. Edward

ContextPastor Edward, a church leader in Damascus, Syria, has lived for over a decade under the effects of a civil war that began in 2011. Married to Hannah and father of three adult children living abroad, he dedicates his life to serving the local Christian community, teaching trust in God's sovereignty amid religious persecution and armed conflict.

The TrialOne Friday, returning from a worship service, Edward found the city under heavy bombardment. He witnessed scenes of homeless families, like a father carrying a two-year-old child and two others, with plastic bags, wandering aimlessly at midnight. The war had already destroyed homes, businesses, and hopes, and half of his church members had left the country.

Faith and OutcomeDespite the danger, Edward felt a divine calling to stay. Amid the darkness, he saw faith flourish: young people from non-Christian backgrounds sought baptism, like a young man who publicly declared his faith on Facebook before the ceremony. The church, though reduced, became a beacon of hope, sowing love and forgiveness in a devastated land.
