ContextYakubu Maina is a Nigerian farmer living in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria. His daughter Maimuna was among the 275 girls kidnapped by the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram from the Chibok secondary school on April 14, 2014. Since then, Yakubu has had no news of his daughter and lives with the pain of uncertainty.
The TrialOn the night of the kidnapping, Yakubu heard gunshots and went to Chibok, where he found people in panic. The next morning, he learned that all the high school girls had been taken. Boko Haram, which opposes Western education and attacks Christians, invaded the school and took the girls. Over 100 girls remain missing to this day.
Faith and OutcomeDespite the pain, Yakubu kept his faith in God and encouraged other parents not to give up. He organized prayers and stated that God would save the girls. His wife, though worried, also trusts in God. Currently, Yakubu continues to pray and hope, while the persecution of Christians in northeastern Nigeria persists.
